Livewire Rock Academy is a rock and pop music school with branches in Epping, Bishop’s Stortford, Dunmow and Saffron Walden. We teach children and adults how to play electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards in a fun, safe and friendly environment on a 2:1 basis with our trained tutors. We spend 45 minutes teaching our students to play the instrument of their choice using our absolutely unique, easy to follow course materials.
Then for the last 15 minutes of the 1 hour session we put their new skills into practice when they perform in our weekly live jam session, playing classic and contemporary rock and pop songs together with the tutors.
Every six months we put on a live concert where the students get to perform their new skills on stage in front of a live audience. Our concerts raise money for local charities and we are regularly invited to perform at other events such as local festivals, fetes and special events.
We recently performed at Saffron Screen, opening for the Led Zeppelin movie “Celebration Day” (yes, we’ve supported Led Zeppelin! ;o) and played on the main stage at the Stortford Music Festival.
We offer free, no obligation taster sessions at all of our schools. To book, call manager Dean Austin on 07941 670575 or visit www.livewirerockacademy.co.uk
The business was established by Simon Baker and Andy Wilson in 2009.
Simon and Andy were previously one of the best performing franchisees of the Clive’s Easylearn Pop Music School network and decided to take an opportunity to create their own brand and network in 2012, creating Livewire Rock Academy.
Andy and Simon recruited local musician Dean Austin to manage the schools under the new brand in 2012.
Simon Baker is a professional musician and music industry veteran. He has a huge amount of experience of the general music business having held key positions at record labels, distribution companies and major music retailers for over 20 years. He has also managed two international bands and now regularly performs professionally as a drummer and a singer in two bands and promotes live events throughout the South East .
He is also a former director of the Stortford Music Festival.
Simon is passionate about bringing his wealth of musical experience to younger generations who are keen to gain a foothold in the music industry. Launching a local rock school was a big part of sharing this experience.
Andy left a long career in a major global banking group to found a business in the entertainment space. He decided to follow his lifelong passion for music in his next venture and co-founded what has now become LiveWire with Simon in 2009. “Seeing the sheer enjoyment our pupils experience from taking the learning they get on an instrument to a live environment on stage is why we do this. It’s hugely rewarding and I wish I had had that sort of opportunity when I was younger”
Andy is also a singer, songwriter and performs on the local acoustic circuit. He has managed a band, transforming their performance and commercial opportunity and is currently a director of Stortford Music Festival.
Dean Austin has been a core member of the local music scene for many years; from being a director of Stortford Music Festival, a regular guest host of Acoustic Club, and curator of hugely popular charity fund-raisers, to performing as a solo artist and as frontman to The Strangerhood.
His musical career began with a debut in New York, followed by a diverse array of gigs, supporting bands such as Pulled Apart By Horses and The Holloways to even performing his own band’s material with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Keen to motivate the next generation of rockstars, Dean joined Livewire after seeing the enthusiasm generated by the emphasis on live performance and having fun with music.
