Drums are one of the most exciting instruments to play and quickly became one of the most popular instruments among students at Livewire Rock Academy. We teach on electronic drum kits (which can be turned down!) and use drum music to teach the students. Drum notation is easier to follow than musical notes and is the best way for students to understand the workings of a drum kit and the part it plays in a live band. From the first lesson students learn basic beats and how hands and feet work together to play a basic rock rhythm. Typically students pick these basic skills up quickly and are then able to join in with the jam sessions.
For those about to rock out on the Drums, Livewire Rock Academy in Bishops Stortford is the place to start! Our bespoke course teaches a wide variety of techniques and styles, focusing on key songs and some of the most influential rock drummers. By the end of the course a drum student can expect to be able to back a band confidently behind the kit and draw on many different styles and skills. At Livewire Academy every lessons ends with a Jam session. Over the years we have chosen an array of our favorite guitar riffs, and we are adding to the list all the time with our students favorite songs.
A foundation in music theory will change the way you process and perceive music that you hear. Developing your ear will improve your playing. Just like a great writer can get better by reading the classics, a musician can improve by listening to excellent music. To further your understanding, consider setting up a home studio and recording your own music before playing it back. As you train your ear to listen for details in the music, like what key it is in, or why a particular succession of notes sounds good, you will be training yourself to be a stronger drummer.
